I've been going to The Grosvenor on and off for 10+ years. I even lived in the lodge up stairs for about 2.5 years.
The pub usually has quite a high staff turn-over, but the current batch have kind of settled. There are one or two staff who have been around for a long time, as with the majority of pubs in Sydney.
I did get banned from the pub for three months on one occasion. When I quietly asked one of the bar staff as to what it was I had done to get banned (I used to drink a lot). She stood back a bit, and in a loud enough voice that could be heard by not only the whole pub inside, but probably those sitting outside as well, she explained...
Everyone had a giggle at my expense. Pfft!
The pub does have a seemingly rotating 'loyal' group of local clientele, who, on the most part, are a nice lot. Some of them do think they own the place, or their piece of the place, and you'd be wise not to interrupt that.
Fights do break out from time to time, but it's usually just between that 'loyal' group, however the odd innocent passer-by will cop a mouthful on occasion.
If you have a dog, ignore the sign on the door that says "No Pets Allowed." Everyone else does.
If you enjoy a few ciggies with your beer, ignore the "No Smoking" signs around the outdoor furniture. Just about everyone else does.
The place claims to be family friendly, but I personally wouldn't take anyone younger than 18 years old.
The Grosvenor really does need a security guard during all opening hours.
The menu changes a bit too often for my liking, and really, I wish they'd just stick with the traditional pub type meals. Bring Back The Schnitty!!
